The New York Rangers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes in game seven of their series. The Rangers had a record of 52-24-6 this season. The Hurricanes finished the season with a record of 54-20-8. These two teams played each other four times this season with the Hurricanes winning three out of the four games. The series is tied 3-3. Puck drops at 8pm EST.

 

Rangers Force Game Seven

New York took game six and forced a game seven. They won game six 5-2. Filip Chytil scored twice and Adam Fox had two assists. Igor Shesterkin was excellent in the net, stopping 37 out of 39 shots faced. The Rangers will need to win their first game in Carolina in order to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

 

The offense was average for the Rangers this season. They scored three goals or more in eight out of their last 10 games to end the year. The Rangers ranked 16th in goals per game and 28th in shots per game. Artemi Panarin led the team with 96 points. Chris Kreider was third in the league with 52 goals. The offense was not a problem for the Rangers in the first round of the playoffs, as they scored four goals or more in five out of the seven games in round one. They have struggled in this series, as they scored one goal in games one and five, and were shut out in game two. New York scored three goals in game three but one of them was an empty-net goal. The offense was better in game four, as they scored four goals on Raanta. They scored five goals in game six to force a game seven. Mika Zibanejad leads the Rangers with 15 points in the playoffs.

 

The defense was fairly good and goaltending was excellent for the Rangers. They ranked second in goals against per game and 11th in shots against per game. Igor Shesterkin was outstanding in the net for the Rangers. He had a record of 36-13-4 with a 2.07 GAA and .935 SV%. Shesterkin ranked first in GAA, first in SV%, and third in shutouts among all goalies in the league. Shesterkin struggled in the first round of the playoffs, allowing three goals or more in six out of seven games in the first round. Shesterkin has been excellent in this series against Carolina, allowing two goals in the first game and game six, and one goal in games two, three, and four. Adam Fox had 74 points. He was fourth in points and third in assists among all defensemen in the league. Fox had one point or more in each of the seven games in the first round but he did not record a point in the first two games of this series. He recorded one assist in games three and five, and he scored a goal and had an assist in game four against Carolina. Fox had two assists in game six.

 

Hurricanes Fail to Eliminate Rangers

Carolina failed to eliminate the Rangers in game six as they lost 5-2. Brady Skjei scored a goal and had an assist. Vincent Trocheck scored a goal. Antti Raanta allowed three goals on just 13 shots before being pulled from the game. Carolina returns home, where they are 7-0 so far in the playoffs.

 

The offense was good for the Hurricanes this season. Carolina ranked ninth in goals per game and ninth in shots per game. Sebastian Aho led the team in points, with 81 points on the season. Andrei Svechnikov had 69 points this year. The Hurricanes’ offense was excellent at home in the first round, scoring five goals in games one, two, and five and three goals in game seven at home in the first round. The second round has been different, as they have scored just two goals in each of the first two games and just one goal in games three and four. The Hurricanes scored three goals in game five and two goals in game six. Teuvo Teravainen leads Carolina with 11 points in the playoffs. He has scored a goal in games four and five and he has one point in four out of six games in this series. Sebastian Aho scored one goal in each of the first two games of this series and he had an assist in games four and six.

Defense and goaltending were both fantastic for Carolina this season. They ranked first in goals against per game and first in shots against per game. Frederik Andersen has a record of 35-14-3 with a 2.17 GAA and .922 SV%. He ranked second in GAA, tied for third in SV%, and tied for fifth in shutouts among all goalies in the league. Andersen has not played a game in the playoffs. Antti Raanta has been sharp in the playoffs, having a 2.20 GAA and .924 SV% in 12 games started in the playoffs. Raanta allowed one goal in games one and five, shut out the Rangers in game two, and allowed two goals in game three of this series. He struggled in game four, allowing four goals on 28 shots faced. Raanta also struggled in game six, allowing three goals on 13 shots faced before being pulled from the game early in the second period.
