NHL carolina hurricanes vs tampa bay lightning prediction and preview

The Carolina Hurricanes had a 4-2 lead in Game Four and looked poised to even the series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. That was before the Lightning scored three unanswered goals in the second period and added one more goal to close out the game 6-4. The Lightning have a 3-1 series lead and another win will advance them to the next round and continue their quest to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, are hoping to keep their season alive and will return home for the next game with the hopes of not being deflated from the devastating loss.

Lightning offense steals Game Four

The Lightning offense was able to turn a corner in Game Four and remind d everyone that they can beat any team in the span of minutes with their electric offense. The Lightning were trailing 4-2 in the game but scored three goals in the span of five minutes to take the lead and ultimately win the game 6-4. The Lightning offense is incredible with their puck movement and ability to fire the puck on the net with open shots, and Nikita Kucherov has only made the offense all the more explosive. Kucherov has 5 goals and 12 assists but Alex Killorn and Brayden Point have led the way with a combined 13 goals for the offense while Steven Stamkos has 5 goals in the backend of the offense.

The offense has led the way for the Lightning but the defense has been inconsistent in this series with the team allowing one goal in one game while allowing the Hurricanes to pile on the goals in another game. The Lightning have to continue to get into passing lanes, something Victor Hedman has been able to do commonly but the rest of the unit has struggled with. Moreover, Andrei Vasilevskiy has struggled in the recent games, allowing goals he normally wouldn't allow to boost his average to 2.4 goals allowed per game despite a .928 save percentage.

Hurricanes defense falls apart

The Hurricanes defense has played great the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the first three games of the Second Round series being no exception. Game Four, however, saw the entire unit collapse as they were constantly allowing easy and open shots on the ent and the Lightning ultimately scored six goals against them. The hope is that Dougie Hamilton and Jaccob Slavin can continue to create turnovers on the defensive end of the ice and whether Petr Mrazek or Alex Nedeljkovic in the net, they can step up in the next game.

The defense has struggled lately but the offense has found its rhythm once again with great cross-ice passes and quick pucks to the net. Sebastian Aho has 6 goals in the playoffs thus far while Jordan Staal has 5 goals in the playoffs. In addition, Andrei Svechnikov has added 6 assists along with Jaccob Slavin's 5 assists from the point, opening up the offense for the Hurricanes, which will be needed in the upcoming games against the Lightning considering how their defense has struggled.
