The Philadelphia Eagles face the Carolina Panthers with both teams coming off tough losses but couldn't have had two more different starts to this season. The Eagles won their first game of the season but have lost the last three games and have looked like one of the worst teams in the NFC. The Panthers meanwhile, won three games to start the season before a loss last game to drop to 3-1 on the season. Both teams are looking to bounce back from last week and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

Eagles have struggled on both sides of the ball

The Eagles started out the season with a 32-6 promising win but have struggled immensely since. The offense has looked hapless as they are scoring 23.5 points per game with Jalen Hurts trying to carry the unit with 291.8 passing yards per game, seven passing touchdowns, and 226 rushing yards with a rushing touchdown. Outside of Hurts, the run game has struggled with Miles Sanders averaging only 42.3 rushing yards per game while rookie DeVonta Smith is the leading receiver with 227 yards and a touchdown while tight end Dallas Goedert has two receiving touchdowns.
In addition to the offense struggling, the defense has allowed 26.5 points per game and last week being a disaster where they allowed 42 points. Defensive lineman Javon Hargrave has been applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks with five sacks and seven QB hits while linebackers Alex Singleton and Eric Wilson have limiting big plays at the second level with a combined 72 tackles but the secondary needs to step up to save the Eagles defense. The secondary has yet to force an interception and only has five passes defended with cornerback Avonte Maddux leading the way with two passes defended.

Panthers defense has led the way this season

The Panthers are off to a strong start this season and one of the reasons for their early season success has been their revamped offense which is scoring 24.3 points per game. Offseason acquisition Sam Darnold is off to the best start of his career, completing 67.8 percent of passes for 297.3 yards per game while adding five passing and five rushing touchdowns. In addition, the Panthers' run game lost Christian McCaffrey to injury but Chuba Hubbard has picked up the rushing attack with 119 rushing yards on the season while DJ Moore has emerged as the top receiver on the team with 398 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The offense has played well to start the season but the defense has been one of the best in the NFL, allowing only 16.5 points per game and 156.5 passing yards per game. Hassan Reddick and Brian Burns have been establishing pressure off the edge with a combined 7.5 sacks and 11 QB hits while Shaq Thompson has emerged as the team's number one linebacker with 25 tackles, four QB hits, a sack, and an interception but the secondary has led the way. Safety duo Justin Burris and Jeremy Chinn have combined for an interception, two passes defended, and 28 tackles while cornerback Donte Jackson has two passes defended and 17 tackles as the Panthers limit passing lanes and big plays past the line of scrimmage and looks to only improve with the acquisition of former All-Pro corner Stephon Gilmore this week.
