The Florida State Seminoles travel to Memorial Stadium in South Carolina as they kick off against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday afternoon. The Seminoles (3-4) destroyed UMass 59-3 as huge home favorites last weekend. The Tigers (4-3) fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers 27-17 on the road in their last game. Clemson opens this game as 10 point home favorites.
FSU Crushes UMass for Third Straight WinJordan Travis, Jashaun Corbin, Treshaun Ward, D.J. Williams, and Lawrance Toafili each had touchdown runs as Florida State routed UMass 59-3 last Saturday afternoon. Florida State got the job done, wasting little time putting away UMass. The Seminoles scored on eight of their 10 drives and matched a season-high in points for a game this season with 38 in the first half alone. What was a rocky September has seen a bounce back in October with wins over Syracuse, North Carolina, and UMass.
The Seminoles (3-4) have won three straight games for the first time since the end of the 2017 season. Corbin ran for 127 yards on 11 carries, his fourth 100-yard rushing game this season. Travis ran for 78 yards on nine carries despite playing just a drive after halftime. Florida State ran for a season-high 365 yards, the sixth time this season the Seminoles have surpassed the 200-yard mark on the ground. It was another much-needed victory after Florida State looked dead in the water at the end of September. It's just the fifth time Florida State has run for at least 365 yards since 2000. FSU has six 200-yard rushing games, the first time they have done that in their first seven games of a season since 1995.
Tigers Struggle Offensively AgainD.J. Uiagalelei threw a pair of interceptions, including a baffling shovel pass right into the stomach of Pitt linebacker SirVocea Dennis that was returned 50 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter as the Tigers fell 27-17 to Pittsburgh last week. ''They kicked our butts, it's as simple as that,'' Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said to Associated Press reporters after the game.
Uiagalelei passed for just 128 yards and was briefly benched in favor of backup Taisu Phommachanh in the third quarter. Phommachanh failed to provide much of a spark, completing just 3 of 7 passes for 23 yards before Uiagalelei returned midway through the fourth with Clemson down by 17. When asked if there's now an open competition at the position, Dabo nodded. Then again, it's hardly the only spot up for grabs with Clemson assured of its first three-loss season since 2014. Expect to see D.J. out there against Florida State, but the leash will be extraordinarily short.
