Blues Lose Game FourSt. Louis lost both games three and four at home and now face elimination in game five. They lost 6-3 in game four. David Perron scored twice and Pavel Buchnevich scored a goal and had an assist. Ville Husso struggled in the net, allowing five goals on 36 shots faced.
The Blues were very good on offense this season. They ranked third in goals per game and 18th in shots per game this year. Vladimir Tarasenko led the team with 82 points on the season. Robert Thomas had 77 points. Eight players had over 50 points on the season for the Blues. It was a very balanced effort on offense for the Blues. David Perron leads the team with 13 points in 10 playoff games. Ryan O’Reilly scored one goal in five out of six games in round one and he scored one goal in games one and three of this series.
The defense was fairly average but goaltending was good for St. Louis this season. They ranked 11th in goals against per game and 16th in shots against per game. Ville Husso had a 25-7-6 record with a 2.56 GAA and .919 SV%. Husso started games 1-3 in the first round of the playoffs but he struggled and did not see game action till game three of the second round, where he allowed four goals on 23 shots faced. Husso once again struggled in game four, allowing five goals on 36 shots faced. Jordan Binnington had a record of 18-14-4 with a 3.13 GAA and a .901 SV%. Binnington was much better in the playoffs than Husso. He allowed two goals or less in games four, five, and six of round one. Binnington started games one and two of this series and he allowed three goals in game one and one goal in game two. Unfortunately, Binnington will miss the remainder of this series and the Blues will need to rely on Husso in the net.
Avalanche Take Commanding Series LeadColorado won game four 6-3 and they now lead the series 3-1. Nazem Kadri had a hat trick and added an assist. Darcy Kuemper stopped 17 out of 20 shots faced.
The offense was fantastic for Colorado this season. They ranked fourth in goals per game and fourth in shots per game. Mikko Rantanen led Colorado with 92 points and he had scored 36 goals, which also led the team. Nathan MacKinnon played in 65 games this season and he recorded 88 points. MacKinnon has nine points in eight games played in the playoffs. He has recorded at least one point in all but one playoff game. Gabriel Landeskog has 10 points in eight playoff games. He had two assists in game one and scored a goal in games two and three of this series. Nazem Kadri has 10 points in eight playoff games. Kadri scored a goal and had an assist in game three and scored three goals and had an assist in game four of this series.
Defense and goaltending were fairly decent for the Avalanche this season. The team ranked ninth in goals against per game and 19th in shots against per game. Darcy Kuemper had a 37-12-4 record with a 2.54 GAA and a .921 SV%. He ranked tied for fourth in shutouts among all goalies in the league, with five shutouts on the season. Kuemper has been sharp in the playoffs. He has allowed two goals or less in five out of seven starts and he has not allowed more than three goals in any game in these playoffs. Kuemper has a 5-1 record with a 2.14 GAA and .917 SV% in the playoffs. Cale Makar was second in points, first in goals, and tied for fifth in assists among all defensemen in the league. Makar leads the Avalanche in the playoffs with 12 points in eight games played in the playoffs. He had three points in three out of four games in the first round. Makar has two assists in this series.
