We will have some American League baseball on Sunday afternoon as the Kansas City Royals will take on the Colorado Rockies in the final game of this three-game set. The Royals will have left-hander Daniel Lynch on the mound and is coming off a loss against the Baltimore Orioles as he went 3.2 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts. The Rockies are sending southpaw Austin Gomber as he lost against the San Francisco Giants last time out with five runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Royal Pains? The Kansas City Royals are trying to take that next step as a team and expecting some players to bounce-back during the 2022 season. The team is 28th in the sport with a .613 OPS so far and they need to improve there. Second baseman Whit Merrifield has struggled brutally this year as he has a .426 OPS with one home run and 11 RBI with five stolen bases. If he can get back to decent at the dish, it will be a great sign.
Daniel Lynch is on the mound and has struggled according to his Baseball Savant numbers as he is in the 14th percentile in hard hit percentage. He has struggled to miss barrels as hitters have barreled up eight of 71 batted balls against him (11.3 percent). Lynch throws a five-pitch mix with three pitches thrown at least 18.5% of the time.
Baltimore Taking That Next Step? The Colorado Rockies have been doing incredibly well thus far as they are trying to prove thy are improved this season. This lineup has dominated as they are fourth in baseball with a .738 OPS. First baseman C.J. Cron has to continue dominating as he has a .948 OPS with nine homers and 24 RBI. He has been doing incredibly well offensively if they want to continue doing well.
Austin Gomber has struggled thus far according to his Baseball Savant numbers as he is in the 20th percentile in strikeout percentage. A huge reason for that number is the fact that hitters are finding the sweet spot of the bat on 35.1 percent of batted balls. Gomber throws four different pitches and does a great job mixing his arsenal as he throws each pitch at least 14 percent of the time.
