NHL new york rangers vs chicago blackhawks predictions and preview

The Rangers are red hot and they host a Blackhawks team that has won two of their last three games.

After losing 11 of their first 12 games of the season the Blackhawks have gotten back on track winning seven of their last 10 games. They have played better defense lately but still only rank 24th in goals against per game and are only averaging 2.14 goals per game. Chicago is in second to last place in the Central Division 15 points out of first place.

The Rangers are red-hot as of late, as they are riding a five-game win streak and have won nine of their last 10 games. The team is coming off a shutout and led by a defense that ranks fourth in the NHL only giving up an average of 2.50 goals per game. New York is in second place in the Metropolitan Division only one point back of the Washington Capitals.



Solid Win

In their last game the Blackhawks were on the road and beat one of the best teams in the league in the Capitals 4-3 in a shootout. Both teams had 28 shots in the game and Alex DeBrincatDominik Kubalik, and Seth Jones all scored in the win. Marc-Andre Fleury 6-9-0 2.90 GAA) made 25 saves in the game and he has given up three goals in two of his last three starts.


DeBrincat leads the team with 13 goals and he has two goals and an assist in the last three games. Patrick Kane leads the club with 19 points (6 goals 13 assists) and while he does not have a goal in the last six games, he does have two assists in the last three games. Backup Kevin Lankinen (2-3-2 3.20 GAA) may get the start in this game and he has been up and down on the season and in his last four starts the Blackhawks have won twice where he gave up three goals while in the two losses, he was lit up for 11 goals. On the season Chicago is 3-7-1 on the road.


Costly Win

New York was at home in their last game beating the San Jose Sharks 1-0 where goalie Igor Shesterkin (13-3-2 2.05 GAA) had to leave in the third period after an injury and is listed as day-to-day. He had turned away all 19 shots he faced and, on the season, he ranks tied for first in wins, third in save percentage, and fifth in GAA. In the win over the Sharks Ryan Strome scored the lone goal on a power play.


New York has only allowed four goals in their last four games.

Chris Kreider ranks tied for third in the NHL with 16 goals and he has scored four goals over the last five games. Artemi Panarin leads the team with 23 points (6 goals 17 assists) and he has two goals and five assists over the last five games. With Shesterkin injured in the last game look for Alexandar Georgiev (2-1-1 3.89 GAA) to get the start and while he stopped all nine shots, he faced in relief in the last game he has given up seven goals in his last two starts. On the season New York is 7-1-1 at home.
