The Dodgers have won four of their last five games and they swept the Giants in a four-game set just before the All Star break. The club has the best record in the NL and they are running away with the NL West with a 12-game lead over the second place San Diego Padres.

The Giants have won two in a row and three of their last four games. They are still only 3-7 in their last 10 games and are in third place in the NL West 17.5 games back of the Dodgers.

Not a Bad Debut

In the Dodgers last game, they beat the Colorado Rockies 7-3 where rookie James Outman had a stellar debut. He hit a HR in his first big league swing and was 3 for 4 with three RBI and Freddie Freeman was 3 for 5 with an RBI.

The Dodgers rank second in the Majors in runs scored and they have totaled 25 runs in the three wins in their last four games. Freeman (.325 15 HR 66 RBI) has hit safely in four straight games where he has three RBI. Mookie Betts (.266 23 HR 52 RBI) is among the leaders in baseball in HR and he has five hits in the last five games but no RBI and no long balls. Andrew Heaney (1-0 0.47 ERA 0.88 WHIP) takes the nod for this series opener and in his last outing lasted four innings only allowing one hit and no runs in a 7-1 win over the Washington Nationals. The Dodgers have won three of his four starts this season and in all of those wins he did not give up any runs. This is Heaney’s first start of the season facing the Giants.

Pitching Has Been Solid

The Giants have been led by their lineup this season but in their last four games their pitching has been solid giving up 10 runs. In their last game they shut out the Chicago Cubs heating them 4-0 where the team had nine hits and the two players in the bottom of the batting order in Jason Vosler and Austin Wynns each had two RBI. Wilmer Flores (.248 15 HR 55 RBI) leads the team in RBI and have four in the last five games. On the season San Fran is 29-23 at home and they have won five of their last seven games facing the Dodgers in the City by the Bay.

The Giants have lost his last two starts and won his previous two but in the four starts before the last one he only gave up four runs in 26 innings of work. Webb’s lone start facing the Dodgers this season came in the outing before the last one where he gave up one run in six innings in a Giants loss.
